Malcolm would have turned 80 years old tomorrow
What would have been his message to us today?

We MUST honor the love he had for us.

In celebration of the 80th birthday of African American Muslim and nationalist leader Malcolm X, theAkwaaba Community Center and Black Star CommunityBookstore will present

"When Malcolm X Blitzed Britain"

a free program
Thursday, May 19, 2005
7:00-8:30 p. m.
Akwaaba Community Center
8045 Second @ Seward, Detroit.

PRESENTATION
The program will feature a special presentation byHighland Park scholar Paul Lee on Malcolm X's little-known final trip to Britain in February 1965, two weeks before he was assassinated, which Mr. Lee researched in Britain.

During Malcolm X's weeklong visit, he helped to forceBritain’s long-festering "colour" problem into the open, made contact with leaders of its continental African and Caribbean communities and planted the seeds of racial consciousness among black and brown immigrants that would flower into the British "blackpower" movement two years later.

FILM
Lee will also screen and introduce, for the first timein the U. S., rare film of Malcolm X's controversial visit to Smethwick, an industrial town in the British Midlands, which was then the unwilling poster childfor extremist white reaction against "coloured"immigrants from the Caribbean and South Asia.

TRIBUTE
The program will also present the Second AnnualMalcolm X Birthday Celebration Award to 90-year-oldblack nationalist stalwart Bro. Thabiti (Jerry)Warren. For over seven decades, Bro. Warren has been a devoted member of several of the most important black nationalist groups in Detroit.

Baba,

I am a day late writing this. I remembered you yesterday. I heard Jamaal interview people who claimed to know you, and those who claimed to have been touched by you. I claim to have been touched by your hu sia.

What will you have me do to honor you on the day of your birth? WHAT SHOULD I DO TO HONOR YOU!!?? Speak to me as only an ancestor can and show me.

Thank you Baba for giving your life so that mine could last a little longer. If it weren't for you, they'd have come for me long ago...
